Gombe prepares for dry season farming

Gombe state governor, Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday, launched farming equipment to enhance dry season farming in the state.
Yahaya who handed 6 trucks, 1 bus, 26 motor cycles, 36 water pumps to farmers through Inclusive Basic Service Delivery and Livelihood Empowerment Integrated Programme (IBSDLEIP), decried the condition of farmers in the state.
He added that farmers constitute 75 percent of the state population, stressing that overcome time the past administrations had abandoned them, thereby overlooking their contribution to the economy of the state.
According to the Yahaya, “We are trying to integrate the farmers that were abandoned, the rural farmers who are engaged in Agriculture for their livelihood they constitute 75 percent of our people.”
Yahaya added that farmers are benefiting from the distribution of implement due to his administration’s commitment to payment of counterpart funds.
“Those that are going to benefit from the motor cycles, water pumps and other inputs that will be given to them should utilize them properly for the greater good of boosting agriculture,” he added.
On his part, Abdulrib Sarikinruwa, General Manager of Rural Water Supply Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), said the procurement is aimed at addressing gaps in basic social services.
He said, “Such as water, sanitation, health, education and livelihood. Gombe will benefit from provision and utilization of basic social services which includes solar powered boreholes, hand powered boreholes.”
