Chima Azubuike, Gombe
Secretary to Gombe State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, on Tuesday identified the roles of members of the legislative arm as crucial to development.
Njodi remarked that lobbying is essential tool needed for attracting dividends of democracy, adding that the people should employ it.
The SSG stated this while playing host to Tangale East Progressives Union (TEPU), at the Government House, noting that appointees of government are limited unlike lawmakers who are elected to make laws for the good of all.
“Our elected representatives will do a beautiful job for us because they know what to do in terms of lobbying, package what you have, call them at your meeting. When you come to us (Executives) ours is to implement most of the things,” Njodi said.
While bemoaning the financial status of the LGA’s, Njodi added that a previous administration collected N850M on behalf of a council, noting that such has different consequences on development.
He said, “A government collected 850 million naira on loan, in the name of the LGA today we are still trying to pay salary and after salary virtually nothing is left. The network eleven hundred is the saviour for us.”
Speaking earlier, Prof. Manjak Nipron, President of TEPU commended the efforts of the Yahaya led administration, in improving the standard of living of the people.
He said one of the goals of his group is promotion of unity between the community and government.
Nipron stressed that some owners of lands recently acquired by government for the building of Federal Polytechnic were yet to get compensation, calling for the relocation of Kaltungo Training Institution.
He said, “The community and the Union can’t explain what is happening in terms of compensation the lands are source of livelihood to the owners of the land.”
Commissioners for Youth and Sports, Higher Education Julius Ishaya, Meshack Lauco and other cabinet officials of the SSG’s office were present to receive the group.
