Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has called on monitors of Social Investment Programme to uphold integrity and abhor corrupt tendencies capable of limiting the gains of the initiative.
Yahaya stated this on Saturday, at the training of 87 independent monitors for the Integrated National Investment Programme, organized by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
The governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Social Investment, and the state focal person, Dijatu Bappah, reminded the monitors that relevant anti graft agencies are working closely to ensure probity.
According to the governor, the programme will not condone harassment of beneficiaries, adding that the initiative is gender sensitive.
“You have been nominated based on trust, so obey rules and regulations. We have EFCC, ICPC with us and almost all the security agencies. Don’t be involved in anything that will take you to court, ICPC, don’t get involved in criminal activities.
“We are gender sensitive, almost all of our programmes favour women, do not harass beneficiaries, ensure you don’t violate the law of the people, be polite so that they can understand the programme,” the governor said.
Also speaking, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, said the trainees were expected to monitor the implementation process of the programme to ensure probity, towards realising the target of the Federal Government.
Represented by Silas Wuyah, Chief Administration officer of the ministry, added that the renewal of contract of the monitors will be subject to their performance.
She said, “They are going to monitor the implementation of National Integrated Social Investment Programme in Gombe. This administration has a focus and mission to lift 100,000,000 people out of poverty in the next 10 years. The application was done online, and they were selected at the federal level but they will be made monitor the process at their local communities.”
On his part, Programme officer, Social Investment Programme in the state, Muzzammil Yahaya, urged the monitors to desist from any form of antagonism in ensuring that work is done, adding that they should be ambassadors.
