During the visit, both leaders discussed extensively on issues bothering on welfare of workers in Imo state and the NLC President assured Senator Athan Achonu, of the support and commitment of NLC towards the actualisation of his Governorship ambition.

The NLC President, Comr. Joe Ajaero expressed his sadness over the inadequate welfare for workers and pensioners in Imo State.

Responding, Achonu thanked the NLC president for the warm welcome and pledged to restore the welfare and dignity of Imo State civil servants. He also promised to clear all outstanding debts owed to Imo citizens.

The LP gubernatorial aspirant scored 134 votes to defeated his closest rival, Mj. Gen. Ogunewe, who scored 121 votes in a keenly contested primary election in Owerri, Imo state capital.
