25 year Development Plan: Borno Govt engages traditional institution on social reorientation

Borno State Government has appealled to the traditional institution to partner the state in the implementation of the 25 Year Development Plan and 10 years of strategic initiatives launched by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The delegation led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele stated this in a meeting on sunday with the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, the Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mustapha Mai Umar, Emir of Gowza, Alhaji Muhammadu Shehu Idrissa, Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali Ibn Ismaila Mamza ll and Emir of Shani, Alhaji Muhammad Nasir Mailafiya.
The meeting was held at the Palace of the Shehu of Borno, HRH Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi.
Speaking at the joint meeting, Hon Mele sued for their cooperation in the implementation of Borno’s 25 year Development Plan, particularly on social reorientation.
The Commissioner noted that the traditional institution is an enduring part of our heritage. It plays a critical role as custodian of our reach culture and traditions.
The traditional institution are also closely linked with the grassroot and understand the problems of the people intimately. He added.
He said, “in the search for, development, peace, order and stability in our societies, the traditional institution is a veritable instrument. “it is in the overall interest of the people of Borno that the institution of traditional rulers is acknowledged and that clear provisions are made for their active participation in the entire implementation process of the development plan.”
The Commissioner for finance, Budget and Planning, Hon. Adamu Alhaji Lawan appealed for more understanding of the traditional institution in mobilizing the citizens towards implementing the development plan.
The special Adviser to the Borno State Governor on Sustainable Development, Dr. Mairo Mandara also speaks on the role girl child and poor enrollment in our schools.
Other members of the delegation include; the Commissioner of Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Hon. Baba Kura Abba Jato, Senior Special Assistant On Media to Borno Governor, Hon. Baba Shiekh Haruna, Director of Emirates Affairs, Ministry for Local Government, Hassan Zanna Boguma, Executive Secretary, Agency for Sustainable Development, Bunu Monguno among other members.
On his part, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Garbai who spoke on behalf of emirs present at the meeting assured the government of support of the traditional rulers. “We will support in mobilising citizens to key into Governor Zulum’s vision for the overall development of the state,” he said.
While appealing to the state government, he called for the review of funding of the emirate council for optimal performance.
