Yahaya stated that in as much as he would want the state to emerge victorious warned against malpractices.
He made this disclosure on Monday, during his farewell address to the 78 contingent representing the state at the Sports festival.

Yahaya who was represented by his deputy Dr. Manassah Jatau, said the state would not accept any attempt to manipulate the sporting competition, using any form of enhancement.
He said, “By estimation you should have been more than this going to Benin but corona has it good and bad effect. Corona reduced the resources everywhere on the earth. So it has reduced the number of contingents expected in Edo state.
“The few going please do it with your own effort; self confidence is the first psychological first in winning a war. Don’t believe in anything that will induce you to do best because that would fail you. I urge you to go and represent the state with the strength and ability that God has given you forget about drug enhancing activities because we will be very sad if we are told Gombe won a number of competition and unfortunately we are withdrawing this because of sharp practices. Our regime is a regime of transparency, do the best you can do we will appreciate you coming last without drugs than coming first with drugs.”

He described the number of postponements that had characterised the competition owing to Covid-19 lockdown to the coming of Christ.
“That we are here today to witness the event that was almost come like the coming of Christ; since last year Edo 2020, Edo 2020, by God’s grace Edo 2020 is now on ground although Edo 2021,” he said.
