Nigerian Youth Parliament on Saturday, hailed member Hon. Khalid Ahmed on his emergence as Executive Secretary for Governance of the African Youth and Adolescents Network (AfriYAN) Nigeria, urging him to use the office to extend the frontiers of peace and development in Nigeria and Africa.

Ahmed represents Gombe Central in the 5th Parliament. He was also the pioneer Speaker of the Gombe State Youth Parliament.

In a statement signed by Rt. Hon. Azeezat Yishawu, the Parliament expressed delight on his new feat, pledging support for him on his cause to deepen youth participation, development, and empowerment in Africa.

“The leadership and the entire members of the 5th Assembly of Nigerian Youth Parliament congratulate Hon Khalid Ahmed on his emergence as Executive Secretary on Governance of AfriYAN, Nigeria. As a development driven parliament, we will do all we can to support him on his agenda for Nigeria and entire Africa in his new office.

“While we are certain of his sound values as a member, we urge him to use the platform to pursue positive causes to push the frontier of development in the continent,” Yishawu partly said.

Hon Ahmed emerged with 65.2% of the total votes to defeat Mr Ibrahim Oladimeji who had 28.8%.

The African Youth & Adolescents Network on Population and Development was established in Nigeria in 2016 by the United Nations Population Fund with the mandate to increase meaningful youth participation in Africa’s development while addressing the intersecting challenges in the lives of young people.

The organisation aims to increase meaningful youth participation in Africa’s development, deepening alliances for the mission to galvanise sustainable African development.
