Ademola Lookman Switches Allegiance from England to Nigeria
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), through the minister of Youths and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare has expressed joy and excitement as former England youth international, Ademola Lookman was cleared by Fifa to play for the Nigeria National Team.
The Leicester City forward was eligible to play for Nigeria through his parents and the clearance means that Ademola could play in the two-legged 2022 Fifa World Cup play-off against Ghana in March.
24-year-old forward’s switch from England, for whom he helped win the Under-20 World Cup in 2017 to Nigeria was made possible after Fifa approval.
NFF director of communications, Ademola Olajire also expreesed excitement about the positive news, saying it comes as a major boost for the national team and he’s now eligible to play for Nigeria starting with next month’s matches, but a decision whether to invite him or not is the sole responsibility of the coach.
He added that “Lookman is a great addition to the Super Eagles and after a long wait, we are delighted that he can finally play for us.”
Having represented England at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, Lookman will be looking to play for the West African nation in major tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations and the Fifa World Cup.
