Federal Govt reviews National Policy, implementation guidelines on education
The Federal Government has commenced review for the performance of Education Management Information System (EMIS), in order to strengthen the quality of education in the country.
Speaking during the close of the conference the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu represented by the Chief Executive Officer, and Registrar, Joint Admissions Matriculation Board Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, declared the review of National Policy on EMIS and it’s implementation guidelines, review of NEMIS Web and Mobile App, as well as the Online Data Capturing Tool for Tertiary Institutions and EMIS Data Visualization System developed by UNICEF.
He said, “The development was to ensure the functioning and strengthening of EMIS as a reliable, accurate and accountable data shop in line with International Practicing Standards.”
Also speaking, The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Jatau, who also represented Governor Muhammadu Yahaya lauded the Federal Government’s drive to reposition the education sector through putting in place a reliable and accurate source of data.
He said, “The Launching of the 4th National Conference on Education Management System (EMIS) which from available records is the first since the creation of Gombe State on the 1st October, 1996, by General Sani Abacha ( GCFR) is really germane, apt, necessary and indeed inevitable. Basically, Annual School Census (ASC) which is the major source of data collection, analyses, report generation and dissemination for quality and efficient decision making by the relevant authority is to a large extent associated with the quality of data generated by EMiS.
“I am delighted to observe that the National Conference on EMIS is an annual event and rotated among the states of the federation . This will of course bring awareness, unity and understanding of the situations of education in the different states or environment that you may find yourselves. This will ensure that the services you rendered are need-based, and relevant to the communities.”
He explained that the administration has injected new policies and systems into the sector to move education forward, pointing out that they are ready to key into all Federal Government’s programme through partnership support and collaboration, for the benefit of all.
“being a concerned Government that is jealous of developing Gombe, His Excellency, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya identified the importance of education in the society and based on the level of education he met on ground when he assumed office in May 2019 had to declare a state of emergency on education and placed it as it’s second priority after health which comes first for obvious reasons. Following the declaration all stakeholders were brought on board . The Traditional, Religious, Community Leaders, Artisans and other relevant affiliates are now collaborating with Government for education at all levels,” Yahaya added.
On his part, the Commissioner of Education, Dauda Batari, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adamu Kumo appreciated the choice of Gombe for the conference and enjoined them to feel free and enjoy the hospitality.
