Gombe NYSC inaugurates 20 persons for Covid-19 Vanguard
No fewer than 20 Corps members of batch B stream 1 drawn from the 10 Platoons have been inaugurated as Covid-19 Vanguard.
The vanguard is saddled with the responsibility of sensitising Camp participants on Covid-19 Safety protocols, cautioning defaulters and ensuring that camp participants adhere to its safety protocols.
The inauguration took place at NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp Amada, Gombe State, after sensitisation of camp participants on Covid 19 Safety protocols, mode of transmission and treatment among other things.
Speaking during the inuaguration, Dr. John Lamingo, who led the team from Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, took Corps members through practical lessons.
He said, “Corps members must make proper use of facemask, use of alcohol based sanitiser, observation of social distancing and washing of hands under running water.
He also spoke on Lassa fever, Monkey pox and meningitis.
Meanwhile, The Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.Gen. Mohammed Fadah has urged 1,220 corps members deployed to the state to take seriously Covid-19 safety protocols, adding that they should endeavour to take the vaccine.
Represented by the State Coordinator Ada Imoni, the Director General revealed that the scheme is working assiduously within the new normal to ensure every corps member remained safe from the virus.
He said, “Let me also remind you to adhere strictly to the established safety measures such as physical distancing, wearing of face masks and the use of hand washing facilities provided at strategic locations in the orientation camp. You are to equally avail yourselves of the COVID-19 vaccination that will be administered on camp if you have not done so.”
While commending the Federal, State Governments for their support, the DG lauded the NCDC for its technical support.
“Let me once again express our profound gratitude to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for their continued support towards the safe conduct of the Orientation Course within the context of the ‘new normal. Indeed, the sustained provision of Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits and other commodities by the NCDC for usage in all Orientation Camps is a clear indication of the Agency’s interest in the success of the Scheme. I also thank the State Ministries of Health as well as Federal and State tertiary health institutions for their support in the areas of COVID-19 prevention and general health services provided in the camps,” Fadah said.
