Gombe Gov advises 173 NSCDC officers against indiscriminate use of uniforms

No fewer than 173 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have been advised by the Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya not use their uniforms, guns indiscriminately.

Governor Yahaya, represented by the Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau handed the advice on Tuesday during the passing out parade of 173 officers at the Pantami Stadium Gombe.

Our correspondent reports that the 173 men and women in the last few months had embarked on training on the modus operandi of the corps.

He charged them not to use their uniforms to victimise the public, adding that they should not meddle in frivolous matters especially retrieving money which he said is not their duty.

Yahaya said, “However, let me warn that your uniform is not meant to harass the innocent people that don’t have uniform; don’t use your uniform to pursue debt that you are not supposed to pursue that have borrowed money. Please, it is not your duty limit yourself to what your duties are, it should not be used as a means of harassing those that don’t have uniform. The arms you bear are to fight against crime and not to commit.”

He lauded the  State Commandant for the successful passing out of the participants, urging the officers to stem the tide of organised crime.

“I’m not just commending you for commending sake but for a good parade. This is the first of it kind in the state, this parade marks yet another milestone.

“I call on you to cooperate with other security agencies. You must see yourselves as law enforcement agents whether you are wearing green uniform of the army, black uniform of the police,” Yahaya said.

Yahaya added that government would not abandon its responsibility of ensuring protection of lives and property.

On his part, Commandant Waziri Goni also urged them to show humility to the public, adding that “We expect that they will do their work with humility. They are expected to show highest degree of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.”
