By Ben Ngwakwe, Gombe

The Synod frowns at the failure of the Government at various levels to protect the life and property of Nigerian citizens as evidenced by the astronomical rise in kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and wanton destruction and vandalization of critical national assets in the country under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The communique signed by the Bishop of Gombe Diocese, Rt. Rev. Cletus Ajigben Tambari at the end of 4th day second session of the 8th synod with theme, “the Christian obligation to God and Civil Responsibility held in Christ Anglican Church Bogo, Gombe regretted the brutal killing of Christian worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church Owo and lamented that till date, no arrest and prosecution has been made and urged the Federal Government to take every steps to arrest the attackers at Owo and other places and also to ensure immediate release of all kidnapped victims in different states of the federation.

It also urged the Federal Government to take urgent measures to resolve the lingering strike by different academic bodies, including, but not limited to ASSU, ASUP, COEASU, NASU as the strike actions have adversely affected the academic system, calendar and quality of graduates produced by the tertiary institutions.

The copy of Communique obtained to  Periscope Nigeria also frowned at the monetisation of electoral processes, especially vote buying and brazen display of money at the just concluded party primaries election and urged government to take active steps to forestall these condemnable acts and to take measures that will ensure level playing ground to all political parties, by so doing political position cannot be for the higher bidder.

The synod frowned at the poor management of the Nigerian Economy under the watch of President Buhari which is exemplified by hyper-inflation, increase in petroleum product prices, electric tariff, farm implements and inputs, especially fertilizer and called on government at all levels, to take proactive steps to ameliorate the situation, to avoid food insecurity.

While urging the government at various levels to take urgent steps to provide enhanced security, to enable farmers to go back to farm, to forestall imminent food crises, the Synods frowned at the decayed and dilapidated infrastructures especially roads, hospitals, schools that littered all over the country, hence, urged the government to make conscious and concerted efforts to repair the affected infrastructures.

The synod commended the Gombe State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for the numerous roads project, street light, other construction and developmental projects especially in Gombe metropolis, and urged him to extend the project especially road construction to Tumfure axis, other Local Government Councils and its environs, as this will ensure even development to all parts of the state especially the local government areas.

The synod tasked the Inuwa Yahaya led Government to explore other steps to ensure the restoration of peace in troubled area of the state especially in Gombe South and should review the arrest and detention of the suspects, with the view to release those that may have been wrongly arrested and detained, during the Tangale Chieftaincy crises.

Now the Synod talks on the issues that concern them by calling on Nigerians to emulate Christ by obeying civil authority especially, with respect to activities towards 2023 general elections, by getting their Permanent Voters Card and participate in voting at their various polling units during any scheduled election.

That while rendering obligation to the state that they should endeavor not to infringe on the obligation to God, as their due compliance with God’s obligation is the only assurance they have for eternal life, and that the entrenchment of righteousness, justice, equity and good leadership are the panacea for the fight against insecurity and agitations.

Adding that Jesus, the King and the savior whom God has given power and authority to redeem and judge mankind, humbled himself to obey civil authority, despite his divine authority and also, Jesus Christ, the Messiah sent by God, did not allow his heavenly authority to clash with his civil responsibility rather, he and his disciples obeyed the civil authority.
