Police arrest four over attempt to hijack Covid-19 support items in Gombe
Following the distribution of Covid-19 action recovery stimulus launched by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, where items were distributed to residents, a group of four suspected robbers have been arrested for attempting to steal from beneficiaries.
The suspects include; Jamilu Hashimu aged 22 years, Tasiu Tukur 33 years, Bashir Yusuf also known as ‘Mai Galafi’ aged 19 years and Maharazu Yahaya aged 19 years, all from Kuri, in Yamaltu Deba Gombe State.
Briefing journalists on Monday at the command headquarters, Mahid Abubakar, Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that the gang made attempts to steal remaining items, before eventually laying ambush for the vehicle conveying materials to the capital.

Abubakar said, “Police operatives from Deba Divisional Police headquarters arrested the suspects in connection to the case, where His Excellency the Executive Governor of Gombe State Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has concluded the flag-up ceremony of Gombe State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (GO-care) at kuri Yamaltu Deba LGA and left with his entourage, beneficiaries were given some farm materials where the suspects at the venue attempted to forcefully steal the remaining materials, but were prevented by the Police deployed to cover the occasion.”

He added that they also reinforced to lay ambush for the vehicle conveying the rest of the items to Gombe, urging members of the public to continue to partner with the command towards ensuring peace and security.
“The youth further mobilised themselves and laid an ambush at the outskirt of Kuri town where they tried to hijack the materials from vehicle conveying them out of the Kuri town. The suspects however, barricaded the road at a bridge outside the town. The youth started stoning the vehicles going out of the town. Suspects confessed to the crime investigation is ongoing and they will soon be charged to court for prosecution,” Abubakar added.
