The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gombe State chapter on Friday bemoaned alleged government’s intolerance to opponents describing such act as dangerous trend and threatening the 2023 general elections.

Periscope Nigeria reports that on Tuesday officials of Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA), destroyed the campaign office of Muhammad Barde gubernatorial candidate of the PDP.

Justifying the demolition of the structure Group Captain Peter Bilal (retd.), mentioned the issue of proximity to the presidential lodge, adding that the owners of the space moved from Good Governance Initiative to Barde without due recourse to the Authority for necessary documentation and approval.

Condemning the action of government Secretary of the party Adamu Abubakar, in a statement made available to our correspondent recalled with dismay the waste of resources the exercise carried out by the Authority caused.
The statement partly read, “For the second time in this year alone, the Government of Gombe State has sent its agents of destruction being paid with Gombe State tax payer’s money to unleash terror on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by destroying the campaign office of the party’s governorship candidate Alhaji Jibrin Barde who command more than 90 percent followership in our dear State.
“The State woke up to the gory sight of assault on the sensibility of the people by pulling down Alhaji Jibrin Barde’s Campaign Office in total disregard for an injunction granted by Gombe State High Court on July 22, 2022.
“The State Governor has exhibited similar undemocratic intolerant behavior when on March 23, 2022 he sent his agents to demolish Alhaji Danbarde’s campaign office even before he convincingly won a hotly contested PDP primaries.
“It should have been instructive to Gombe State Government that if the first destruction could not stop Alhaji Jibrin Barde from emerging as the PDP candidate, how could one think they can stop the people’s will.”
While lamenting the consequences of government’s act Abubakar alleged that it was an outright disobedience to court orders, adding that the PDP would take over the control of the state following the support of the masses in 2023.
“For a sitting governor to disobey a recognised Court order is a brazen display contempt of law, an act which is not only condemnable but reprehensible.
“The Gombe State PDP is shocked that despite our consolidation of democracy journey, a Governor in this 21st century can still behave this way. This is unbelievable and unacceptable.
“Inshaa Allah, winning next year’s governorship election by Alhaji Jibrin Barde of the PDP is a forgone conclusion no matter the act of brigandage, provocation, intimidation and blackmail being displayed by Governor Inuwa.
“Governor Inuwa surely knows that Gombe State indigenes are not only tired of him and his administration, they are equally resolute in their determination to implement the APC mantra Change” against him.
“The PDP and its teeming followers would not be intimidated because the movement is not just that of Alhaji Muhammad Jibrin Barde alone, but the entire people of the State.
“The PDP in the State is glad to have a peace loving governorship candidate in the person of Alhaji Jibrin Barde who, despite not being at home in the face of provocation, has pacified his teaming followers not to take law into their hands, but be their usual peace loving self.
“The Party is far above the current machination by the State government to derail the peace we currently enjoy in the State as such we would not join issues with governor Inuwa by taking revenge. We are matured, sensible, and morally upright.
“We wish to seize this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to the good people of Gombe State for the unflinching support they have graciously extended to us. We are indeed inspired by this invaluable solidarity and we wish to assure them that we shall not disappoint them in whatever way at all,” the statement added.
