Gombe Gov Calls For Synergy Among North-East States

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has emphasised the need for synergy among the six North-East States to drive development of the region.

Yahaya made the appeal when he hosted Technical Working Group of the North-East Governors’ Forum, said the region cannot continue to rely on the Federal Government for it’s development needs given the dwindling national revenue.
While commending the Technical Working Group which he described as the engine room of North East Governors’ Forum for doing a good job, the Governor urged them to dig deep to profer solutions to the myraid of development challenges bedeviling the region.
He also lamented the lukewarm attitude of the elites towards the development of the region, calling for a rethink.
The Governor further noted that leaders in the region have to strategise on the need to maximise the derivable benefits of the North East Development Commission which has only Ten years life span to fast tract development of the region.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya who recalled with joy the consultation with his colleague Governor from Borno State where he initiated the birth of the forum to accelerate development in the region, however noted that tangible improvements are being realized, although, more needed is to be done.
The recent approval of about one and forty three billion naira road projects by the Federal Executive Council was made possible by the Forum’s persistent visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Earlier, the Secretary to Borno State, Alhaji Usman Shuwa, who spoke on behalf of Technical Working Group, commended the visionary leadership of Governor Inuwa Yahaya as evidenced in the transformation of Gombe State within a short period of time, urging him to maintain the speed.
The Technical Working Group which is being chaired by Gombe SSG, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi comprises of all Secretaries of State governments in the North East, Focal Persons of North East Development Commission, the Director General and staff of the North East Governors’ Forum and other key strategic development officers across the states of the region.
