Jatau noted that the application of effective management is very necessary in view of unfolding of events where the sources of revenue are being threatened by factors associated with insecurity, outright corruption lack of trust in business, hyper inflation that is diminishing real income of citizens, and so many sharp practices in both public and private businesses, and collapsed infrastructure.

He said, “The title ‘Strategic Financial Management for Decision-making in Business’ is a topic that I consider apt, germane, crucial and indeed highly relevant in the face of the numerous challenges facing the entire world and so our nation is no exception. Events and happenings in Nigeria must have left professional bodies and institutes like yours/ours and indeed concerned Nigerians very uncomfortable and wondering what the future holds for us.

“Permit me to observe that there is a high and urgent compelling need for us to examine and advice businesses in situations of insecurity, uncertainties in the economy, high cost of production, low purchasing power, among others. This is for obvious reasons, chief of which is that, these are the realities on ground in Nigeria today- where I am tempted to say ” I have no pleasure in them”( Ecclesiastes 12:1b).”

In his address of welcome the President and Chairman of Council, Institute of Business Diplomacy and Financial Management, Prof.Ayuba Aminu welcomed the members of the institute to the 49th Mandatory Continuing Professional Development, Investiture of Fellowship and induction ceremony.

The speech of the President which was read by a fellow of the Institute Mr. Pius Zira Clement, appreciated the Deputy Governor of Gombe State for making time to be part of the programme, and also congratulated the new inductees in advance wishing them successful deliberations.

The speech partly read,” I am confident that these programmes will keep you abreast of current development in the business environment and the financial system even as the skills and knowledge gained from these programmes will enhance your competences and enable you qualify for the Institute’s Chattered conversion in no distant future.

” I urge you to strive at all times to do yourselves, profession, and families proud by ensuring that excellence, honesty, and transparency always reinforce all your personal and professional relationship with clients and the public.

He warned, “let me seize this opportunity to stress unequivocally that the Institute has zero tolerance for professional misdemeanor on the part of any professional/ member irrespective of how lowly it highly placed in the society. The machinery of the institute’s disciplinary processes would be fully brought to bear on all such deviant cases as soon as they are brought to the notice of the Institute.”

Delivering his paper , the keynote Speaker, Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Saleh of Federal University of Kashere , Gombe spoke on the theme ” Strategic Financial Management for Decision-making in Business.

He said, “it is the intention of every well meaning organization or individuals that business succeed irrespective of who owns it so far as businesses provide the essential needs of the people in the Society.”

He noted with concern the numerous challenges facing the society, their negative effects on the economy and the compelling need to ensure effecting financial management towards successful businesses and overall economic system.

The Guest Speaker further explained that, long term Strategic Financial Management is the best as it tries to visualize the future of the business not being unmindful of the short term plan, calling on financial managers, Entrepreneurs, Government and Private bodies to imbibe the culture of Strategic Financial Management to be incorporated in their financial plans and policies.

The programme featured Investiture of Fellowship, administration of oath of allegiance, presentation of professional membership certificates, and presentation of certificates to MCPD participants.
