The Gombe State University, on Wednesday dismissed as untrue alleged summer semester, with demand for students to register with N25,000.
According to an internal memo issued by the Registrar, Abubakar Aliyu Bafeto, which was obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA, the information on summer semester with additional payment didn’t emanate from the school authorities, describing it as fake.
Bafeto, also disclosed that the school would prosecute the peddlers, adding that efforts were ongoing to tighten loose ends in information dissemination.
“The attention of the University Management has been drawn to a circulating document claiming to be an official circular from the Academic Office, asking students’ to make a payment of N25,000.00 for a summer semester.
“This is to categorically declare that no such circular has been issued by the University. The University authorities are not planning to run summer semester nor has it requested any payment from student for such a programme,” Bafeto said.
While urging students to rely on the school’s communication channels for relevant information, apologised for the inconvenience the alleged fake news would have caused.
Bafeto added, “Students are advised to disregard the information as fake and fraudulent and always rely on the University’s communication channels for information.
“We apologies for any inconvenience this fraudulent circular may have caused. We also wish to assure our students that we are actively working to identify the source of the false information and take appropriate action.
“Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.”
