Former member of the House of Representatives for Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, Hon. Danjuma Shiddi Usman (popularly known as Danji SS), has announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Shiddi made the announcement in a press statement on Saturday, calling on his supporters, sympathizers, and “every lover of good governance” to rally behind the movement.
Our correspondent reports that the former lawmaker had in August 2025 resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing loss of confidence in the party’s internal democracy and deviation from its founding ideals. He said his decision followed “deep reflection.”
Shiddi, who represented Wukari/Ibi in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, was initially recognized by the APC as its senatorial candidate, but his nomination was challenged in court by rival aspirant Senator David Jimkuta, who alleged irregularities in the primary election. The legal battle dragged to the Supreme Court, which eventually ruled in favor of Jimkuta.
In his statement on Saturday, Shiddi expressed gratitude for the support he has received since leaving the APC.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude for the love and solidarity you have shown since the day I stepped away from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Your overwhelming support is proof of the strength of our shared vision — that this movement is genuine, resolute, and committed to rescuing the people of Taraba from the grip of bad governance.
“After careful consideration, due diligence, and wide consultations, I am pleased to announce that we will be charting a new course under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This will serve as our platform as we actively engage in the democratic process leading into the 2026/2027 elections.
“I therefore call on all my supporters, sympathizers, and every lover of good governance to rally behind this movement. Let us join hands to liberate the downtrodden, lift our people from poverty, and bring succor to communities in need by standing firmly with the ADC in every way,” he declared.
