Gombe Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday Burnt Trailer load and two tacooma truck load of adulterated fertilizer at the waste site along Ashaka, Gombe.
According to the zonal head Deputy Chief Detective Superintendent
Ibrahim Shazali, the destruction exercise followed a court order mandating the commission to carry out the exercise.
Shazali who is undertaking his first official engagement after his deployment to the state said the prosecution and destruction of the inferior fertilizer will put an end to food insecurity in the country and increase prosperity.
He said, “The case dates back to last year (2019) when well meaning Nigerians reported the activities of the dealers of fertilizer adulteration. This is due to the effort of the acting chairman and his call on the civil populace that the fight against corruption should not be neglected to the anti graft agencies and it yielded result.
“We swung into action by arresting the suspects accordingly and impounded the adulterated fertilizer.
“The suspects were accordingly taken to court and based on that they were convicted, the court ordered that the adulterated fertilizer should be destroyed properly.”
He added that Investigation has revealed that the main raw material is sourced from katsina, while calling on the state government to be more vigilant in order to flush out the criminal elements.
