Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is set to collaborate with farmers to end food insecurity in the country.
Disclosing this in an interview with journalists at the destruction of Adulterated Trailer Load of Fertilizer in Gombe, Zonal Head Deputy Chief Detective Superintendent Ibrahim Shazali said this act is purely an economic sabotage not only to the farmers but to Government.
He said adulterated fertilizer is the cause of poor yield experienced by peasant farmers with penchant for patronizing dealers noting that their aim of increasing yields will not be achieved because of the quality.
Shazali said, “The Acting chairman of EFCC has always said that the war against corruption should not be left entirely to anti graft agencies, we need information there is need for civil populace to volunteer information for us to act upon it. We are calling on farmers to make purchase from the right sources, sometimes they don’t know the reason for their poor yield. The irony is that some of the fertilizer bags carry presidential fertilizer initiative for unsuspecting farmers to buy.
“The president has been hammering on food security, but if we allow this adulteration to continue the aim of government to achieve food security will never be achieved. This will boost the effort of the Federal Government and boost farmers yield.”
He added that the commission is extending it investigation to kano and other northern states to mitigate farmers colossal damage and boost
