Three years after, Gombe United gets NPFL ticket
Gombe United on Saturday, drew goalless draw with Niger Tornadoes in the match day 3, in the ongoing Nigeria National League super eight play-off in Enugu.
Recall that the last time the time featured in National Premier Football League was since 2018/2019 season.
The savannah scorpions finished second on the log with five points in three matches and two draws in group A northern conference.
According to the media Officer of Gombe United Halilu Teli, the match which kicked off at 10:20am, at University of Nigeria Enugu Campus saw both teams thread with caution.
Teli said, “Both Gombe United and Niger Tornadoes gained promotion back to the NPFL after the goalless result, despite Elkanemi warriors nil victory against DMD FC in the other group A, at Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium which was played simultaneously as the Maiduguri based team finished with four points.”
Meanwhile, the state government has hailed the efforts of the boys saying it was a superlative performance.
The State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, lauded the team through his Director of Press Government House Ismaila Misilli said, “We are proud of the boys and their management team for making us proud and giving the entire sports loving people of Gombe State something to cheer and cherish.”
He noted that the players had demonstrated resilience, capability,
discipline and tactical know- how during their matches and urged them to maintain the spirit in the Premier League and continue to do the state proud.
He assured the players and the management that his administration will continue to invest in sports development in the state.
