Gombe PDP Gov Aspirant laments demolition of structure
A Governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Jibrin has lamented what he described as unlawful demolition of his structure in Gombe State.
According to a court injunction made available to journalists on Tuesday, which was dated 18th March 2022 and signed by Aishatu Mohammed, Registrar of the high court of Gombe, it restrained the state from demolishing the structure managed by Gombe Good Leadership Association.
Addressing journalists, in a virtual meeting Jibrin, stressed that the government has portrayed lack of respect for rule of law.
He said, “Our campaign office has been demolished by the Government of Gombe State and we are taken aback. Sometimes, around December 2021, we planned on completing the campaign office, we went to the state development board to revalidate, an already existing plan alongside our billboard which was approved in 2018.
“It is just a political witch-hunt from the governor to demolish. The board was duly served with the notice. The demolition is a flagrant disobedience of the subsisting court order of Gombe State state high court restraining the government, its allies, agents, whatsoever from demolishing the property. The government has no respect for rule of law.”
Meanwhile, Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA), has provided clarification into the recent demolition of the building.
GOSUPDA stated this in a press release signed by the Executive Chairman of Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority, Group Capt Bitrus P. Bilal ( Rtd), the agency said the demolition of the building was lawfully carried out following the association’s refusal to comply with the Urban Planning and Development Law.
“On 29th December, 2021 following an application by Gombe Good Leadership Association for temporary approval for the erection of billboard, GOSUPDA granted a temporary approval upon meeting terms and conditions attached there in. Some of these conditions required developers to furnish the Authority with detailed working drawings in addition to title documents and the applicant is also required to send in his acceptance in writing.” the statement said.
