No fewer than 40,000 poor and vulnerable are being enrolled in Gombe State, under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund to attain Universal Health Coverage.

Our correspondent reports that the National Identity Number (NIN), is a major prerequisite due to its huge advantage to tracking subscribers who would be enrolled within the 10-day period allotted for the enrolment.

According to the Director Planning Research and Statistics Tanimu Umar, those expected to enjoy the health benefits are; pregnant women, 65 years old persons, children under the age of five, people living with disabilities and Internally Displaced Persons.

Umar said, “The process will cover the entire 114 wards of 11 LGAs in the state where the poorest of the poor and vulnerable will be enrolled. The categories include; children under five, widows, pregnant women, aged (65 years and above), IDPs and people with special needs.”

He revealed that those assigned to onboard beneficiaries had been carefully trained to handle the process at the designated points in the Primary Healthcare facilities.

“Our enrolment officers were well trained and mobilised to handle the 10-day process, they will be closely supervised by GoHealth staff supported by Ward Development Committees and GoHealth Desk Officers,” Umar added.

Speaking during our correspondent’s inspection of the exercise in Pantami, Gida Magani Primary Health Care Centres, Ahmed Bello and Hauwa Danjuma, in separate interviews said the process has been smooth.

The officials added that aside the failure of some without the National Identification Number, some others were not qualified based on the specified guidelines.

Bello said, “We are enrolling beneficiaries for the Basic Health Care Provision Fund. We are five in number enrolling beneficiaries here in Pantami PHC. Some of the clients came without the NIN, and some others are not eligible.

“It takes us some minutes to explain to them. We intend to enroll beneficiaries within this area through the sensitisation of traditional and religious leaders.”
