Gombe NNPP Governorship candidate slams Governor Yahaya
Governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), in Gombe Gombe State, Hon. Khamisu Mailantarki has cautioned Governor Muhammadu Yahaya about mortgaging the future of the state through what he described as borrowing spree.
Mailantarki made this disclosure in an interview with journalists during the weekend when Presidential candidate of the NNPP Rabiu Kwankwaso commissioned the state office.
He revealed that the current administration had condemned borrowing during the Peoples Democratic Party dispensation, stressing that the government administration had borrowed more in three years.
According to him, the residents were tired of bad governance, which he termed as misrule, attributing it to the reason the party has massive support.
In 2021 Gombe State Government approached the state House of Assembly to seek N18.7bn FGN Intervention Facility with a 30-year tenure and a two-year moratorium and N35bn Sukuk bond, totalling 53.7bn which has caused criticism.
He said, “While I was in APC the argument then was that PDP borrowed so much in billions without to show. We are surprised and disappointed that the APC government in three years has borrowed more than what the PDP has borrowed. The burden of all of this is going to be on the poor people of Gombe State and there is nothing to show, you can’t show any single person sponsored to study anywhere by the State Government.
“You only see projects whose prices are escalated deliberately and the people of Gombe are tired of this that is they are supporting us enmass. We have not started campaign, just a visit to commission an office. I’m happy an I’m calling on the people of Gombe that what they believe about Kwankwaso is also my determination to make Gombe State better than what our leader did in Kano. We are not going to follow the foot steps of PDP and APC there policies are not people friendly but favour just a few persons.”
Mailantarki lauded the massive crowd that attended the commission while assuring that he would replicate the development Kwankwaso was known for in Gombe, adding that residents were tired of the two dominant parties.
“With the crowd you see today is a clear indication that the people of Gombe are tired of PDP and APC misrule. Gombe used to be a PDP state and now it APC. The masses are not convinced because all of their policies have not addressed the issues. The people of Gombe are tired of APC misrule that is why they have come out to support the NNPP enmass under the able leadership of our president come 2023 inshallah Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“The people of Gombe are watching what is happening in Nigeria, if look at the policies of our leader when he was Kano State Governor, he ran a government as a two term governor without borrowing money from any bank. He was about the few governors that performed well in terms of infrastructure, he touched every aspect of life in Kano, in terms of scholarships, employment based on merit.”
Mailantarki explained that initiating football academy was spurred in a bid to show gratitude to his constituents for emerging representative in 2011 with the highest votes in the country.
“I contested under a party without a godfather then in CPC the good people of Gombe State especially the youths believed and supported me that why I established the academy to ensure our players get international recognition,” he added.
