Kebbi Gov signs Child Rights, VAPP laws
The Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has signed two bills into law. The bills consist of Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP) as well as Child Rights Protection laws.
The Governor appended his signature to the two bills during the State’s Executive Council meeting on Wednesday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. The governor’s signature followed the passage of bills by the State House of Assembly.

According to a statement that was issued by Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary, Government House, Bagudu stated that the action was a further demonstration by Kebbi state to the international community about its commitment to effectively apply the law against gender violence and strengthen the protection of children.
The governor thanked the state house of assembly for the hard work and graciously passing the law in conformity with the culture and religious values of the people of the state. He equally thanked Religious Leaders and Traditional Rulers for reviewing the law to ensuring conformity with religious stipulations.
Bagudu expressed appreciation to development partners and other groups for their support to the government towards actualizing the enactment of the law and application.
The Governor was similarly grateful to his wife, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu for her immense and great support for initiating and facilitating awareness and formulation of the law against gender violence and the protection of children’s rights and privileges.
Governor Bagudu expressed hope and confidence that the law would be beneficial to the people of Kebbi state as it prohibits all forms of violence and provide maximum protection, effective remedies and punishment of offenders.
