Gombe Deputy Gov attends Late Mrs Safiya Hamma Barka’s thanksgiving memorial
The Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, has joined the family of Justice Hamma Barka, and multitude of well wishers to remember her passage to the world beyond one year ago.
Periscope Nigeria reports that the thanksgiving service was organised by the family at the Reconciliation Christian Center, Federal Housing Estate, along Bye pass, Gombe.
The Deputy Governor, in his tribute to the deceased said, ” like the very great woman that you were, your transition on the 12th September, 2021, when your “sun set” and your “work done” and while for you it “good night” for us it is “good morning” for very obvious reasons. You left us; your friends colleagues, neighbours and relatives without, a “connecting rod” that is very necessary for the building , maintenance and sustainability of understanding among family members, groups and the immediate environment.”

He said the exit of the deceased has created a vacuum that cannot be filled as the family has lost a prayer warrior for God’s intervention in the midst of vicissitudes of daily life.

He described her as a ” doctor” in the house where minor health challenges are attended to, by providing proper and adequate advice free of charge, and also as a living role model to allow people see the path to follow.
He further added, “Because we are now witnessing the horrible and unbelievable phase pinpointed in Ecclesiastes 12:1b “when thou will say, I have no pleasure in them”. Honestly no one in Nigeria today has pleasure in what we are witnessing and experiencing, as there are happenings that are worst than death”.
Dissecting death into three parts,thus;it is regrettable to have a wasted life, good to live better legacy and above all attain eternal life, like in the wishes of our dear late sister Safiya whose good works have followed her and even still being remembered today.”
In his sermon, the Lead Pastor of the Church, Chris Laima spoke on the theme; “the Love of a Judge” said, God, the creator of heavens and earth, is Supreme being and Judge who sets rules of engagement and punishment for defaulters.
The clergyman drew his text from John Chapter three verse sixteen,where he noted that God as a Judge tampers justice with mercy by the provision of the Atoning Blood of Jesus Christ.
He pointed out that, the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ daily reconciling people, who were before now doomed for eternal condemnation, to God for eternal life.
He charges the congregation, especially who have never accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour to accept him now so that the sermon shall not stand against them in judgement.
On his part, The husband of the deceased Mrs Safiya, Justice Hamma Barka appreciated the teaming congregants for joining the family to remember her.
He said, the family has appreciated the fact that their beloved is no longer alive and already in Heaven.
Those who also paid tribute to the deceased include; former Deputy Governor, Dr. John Lazarus Yoriyo, State Chief Judge, Justice Joseph Ahmed Awak, Former Chief Judge, Justice Hakila Heman, and Former Acting Chief Judge, Justice Beatrice Iliya amongst others.
They described death as way of all mortals and called on the congregants to live with eternity in view so that they shall be remembered for the good they have done.
They described the deceased and her family as close family friends, pointing out that the late Safiya was very friendly, calm, kind hearted, tolerant, who has contributed so much to humanity when alive, calling on the people to emulate her good virtues.
Highlights of the event was special prayer for the family, as well as songs and praises to God for a life well spent.
