To the couple the Deputy Governor said “But as for the couple- Michael and Rebecca I will not congratulate you until you are successful in your marriage. This is because I have never seen a soldier celebrating when going to war. The Celebration only comes when the battle is won successfully. So I call on you to ensure you make all of us who are here proud, so that you will be congratulated at last.”
The Deputy Governor noted that marriage is instituted by God for unity, peace and procreation so that the society shall multiply and live to fulfill God’s purpose.

He said, if families shall imbibe godly virtues, the society will be better and governance will be made much easier for administrators to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
While congratulating the parents for raising their children in a godly way to the point of wedding, the Deputy Governor called on parents to raise godly children for a crime-free society.

He said, “there is this wrong notion that people attribute crime in the Society to lack of employment. But I disagree with this notion. I believe that, lack of inculcating godly virtues is the main cause. when you consider the unemployed population in comparison with those who engage in crime you will agree with me that, if crime were the major cause of crime, all the unemployed people would have engaged in crime. So I beg you parents in the name of God to instill godly teachings and principles into your children so that they may not be carried away in to crime.”
Speaking on the different cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the couple the Deputy Governor said “May I also commend Mr Michael and Miss Rebecca for crossing ethnic divides and becoming marriage partners. This should be highly encouraged amongst the youths especially at this time that we are faced with so much challenges emanating from cultural and ethnic differences in a multi-ethic and multi-cultural society. Marriages across ethnic and cultural divides build bridges and encourages peaceful coexistence in diversity.”
He conveyed the goodwill message of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, and the Government of Gombe State to the parents and couple, wishing the couple successful matrimony.
In a sermon delivered by Pastor Ishaku Galadima, took his text from Ephesians chapter 5 verse 21, and Mathew chapter 7 verse 24-29 saying that marriage is established by God himself.
He spoke on the topic, “The Foundation of Christian Marriage” and explained that christian marriage is a mystery, where one added to one becomes one as against mathematical equation that makes it two.
The pastor, quoting the scripture further explained that , the implication is that they should be one in unity, purpose and decision making, etc, charging the newly wedded couple to avoid external interference and stick to biblical injunctions to be successful in their marriage.
He said, no mater how and what characterizes your partner, the biblical standard is that they submit to each other in reference to God, which implies that they must love, and confide in each other while on the matrimonial journey.
“In marriage foundations matters. From the courtship period to the wedding the foundation upon which the marriage begins matters. Whatever you want to happen in marriage should start today. Whatever you allow to happen today is what you should expect to see tomorrow. If you don’t correct that thing today, you can’t be able to stop it tomorrow successfully.”
He called on the couple and all intending couples to ensure laying their foundations on godly principles to avoid any force that may want to pull their marriages down.
The Deputy Governor was received at the church by the Senior Pastor, Rev. John K. Newgrow.
