Three members of the Taraba State House of Assembly from the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Monday defected to the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Our correspondent reports that the defection has further boosted the PDP’s strength in the House to 16 members, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) maintains 8 seats.
The lawmakers who defected are Hon. Umar Adamu, representing Jalingo 1 State Constituency, and Zakari Sanusi of Ibi Constituency, both from the NNPP, as well as Hon. Anas Shaibu, representing Karim 2 Constituency, who left the APGA.
Speaker of the House, John Kizito Bonzina, while reading the lawmakers’ letters of defection on the floor, said the move reflected their desire to contribute to the transformational strides of Governor Agbu Kefas in Taraba State.
Meanwhile, the defected members stated during plenary that their decision followed due consultation with stakeholders, political associates, and constituents.
