“Releasing President Tinubu’s US drug files will disgrace Nigeria.” That is Buratai’s position.

Patriotism is to a country, not to an individual. Where is Buratai’s patriotism? What is the colour of Buratai’s unpatriotism?

A nation that hides the truth to protect one man is not patriotic. It is cowardly. Patriotism is cleaning your house, not covering the dirt with a flag.

Nigeria is bigger than any president. Past, present, or future. If there are files in the US that concern a sitting Nigerian president, the people have a right to know. Silence only breeds rumors. Secrecy only feeds conspiracy. Transparency is what restores dignity.

Buratai, a former Army Chief and diplomat, knows this. Institutions are not built by shielding leaders. They are built by subjecting leaders to scrutiny. When we choose cover-up over clarity, we disgrace Nigeria more than any document ever could.

The disgrace is not in the release. The disgrace is in having questions we are afraid to answer. The disgrace is in a system where loyalty to a person outweighs duty to 230 million people.

If the files exonerate, let them speak. If they indict, let the law speak. Either way, Nigeria speaks.

Patriotism is telling the truth and bearing the cost. Anything else is unpatriotism painted green and white. God help Nigeria.
