It is the Nigeria people that are doing opposition. There is no opposition party.
The last time we had a real opposition party was when APC was in opposition. APC was better off in opposition.
Back then, APC shouted, marched, petitioned, and held government accountable daily. They questioned policies. They exposed waste. They gave Nigerians a voice when power became arrogant.
Today, the roles have reversed and the script is blank. The so-called opposition parties have gone to sleep. No coherent alternative. No shadow cabinet. No pressure. Just press statements and airport pictures.
So the burden has shifted to the people. Market women. Students. Drivers. Nurses on X. Civil society. Ordinary Nigerians are now fact-checking, protesting, trending hashtags, and demanding answers.
That is dangerous for democracy. Opposition is an institution, not a mood. When parties fail, the streets take over. And streets are unpredictable.
A democracy without strong opposition becomes a monologue. Government proposes, government disposes, and nobody asks “why?”
APC proved in opposition that you can disagree without destroying the country. PDP, LP, and others must learn that lesson again.
Nigerians are tired of carrying the opposition on their backs. We pay taxes. We deserve parties that work while we sleep.
Until parties wake up, the people will keep doing their job. And doing the job of parties too. God help Nigeria.
