Pearl Lion’s Club Relieves Hunger
Christmas season exemplifies love and sharing. There is no better set of people to show love and share things with other than the widows, and due to the fatality of life, widows are not in short supply, the question is how many have you extended a hand of neighbourliness to this season and beyond, knowing full well that they currently carry the cross meant for two . Those bereaved of their husbands, are said to have a special place in the place of God, and the order of His divine will. Little wonder why the Bible says ‘God is the husband of the widow’.
At an event organised by Ikeja Pearl Lion club of the Lions International tagged ‘Relieving Hunger’ to celebrate 50 indigent widows in the spirit of the season, the sponsor and Service chair person Mrs Pat. Uyi Erhahon, a retired director in the federal ministry of education, who has been a widow for the past ten years said we are grateful to God for making us worthy instruments, some of those widows do not have plans about what to cook but with these items, Christmas is not no longer a big deal. I want to encourage Nigerian women especially widows to be up and doing towards giving their children a greater future.
The Iyalode of Lagos Chief Mrs Bintu-Fatimah Tinubu, a lion, who was the chair person of the event. In her address, she noted that support for the widow is an express generous service that would give them sense of belonging, allow them gain their inner power, gain greater confidence, self – esteem and control over their own lives, personal and social relationship with the society. Amongst other invited guests to the occasion were Mrs Adesuyi, Mrs Comfort Awosika, although am not a widow, I feel humble to have been invited, to see how widows are made excited, it is a worthy initiative. Rev. Ayo Adebanwa, of the Methodist church in his short charge emphasized the importance of the ‘widows prayer’ from the book of Luke 18vs 1-8, I will advise widows to commit their children to the care of God, trust in Him at all times.
Major highlight of the program was induction of non members to Ikeja pearl Lion’s Club by Lioness Mbang and the presentation of gifts, sacks containing the bags of rice, ingredients and wax wrapper by the Iyalode of Lagos, Lion Tinubu, the service chair person Lioness Erhahon, Lioness Mbang amidst smiles and cool afro juju music in the background.

Since 1917 Lion’s club international, the foremost and widest reaching charity organization has aided the blind and provided supports to many indigent people in various capacities, which includes health care and credit facility. Lioness Erhahon, succinctly puts it as We serve humanity and in the long run we serve self. So if you are a widow and you didn’t know about this laudable exercise, the next phase of this program may be favourable to you.Another fact what considering is the importance of good deeds, it begins with just an attempt. Have you realized that it costs less to do good than the opposite, why it is imperative to show love to that fellow, not just this season but as often as possible and watch the society become a better place.
