Yaba Psychiatric Hospital tasks  Media.

The Association of Resident Doctors, Neuro Psychiatric hospital yaba, Lagos in it annual health week organised a workshop in Lagos with the theme Mental illness and the media and sub theme best practices in reportage.

In a chat with our reporter, the president Association of Resident Doctors Federal Neuro psychiatric hospital yaba, Dr.Mojisola  Akerele, claimed this workshop was to encourage the media on best practices in other to reduce stigma as it relates to mental health. We expect that the media having imbibed today’s discussion will report issues relating to mental health with global standards. What we did today is to shine the light on what we have noticed over time. A participant Dr. Osun Makinde, called on government to develop political commitment towards sustaining program of this kind. Dr David Oladele, Consultant public health physician admonished the media to get the right information from experts. Medicine has different branches and there are professionals, the media must ask the right question, broadcast it in the simplest of forms without necessarily misinforming the audience especially as it relates to mental health.
The workshop ended on the note of new focus, after heated questions and answers by the panelists.

Thinking outside of the box in news gathering. Relating issues without bias, fundamentally a voice to the voiceless.
