Gombe State Youth Parliament, has joined millions of youths across the world to commemorate International Youth Day being celebrated every 12th of August.
According to the speaker Rt. Hon. Khalid Ahmed Kumo, He told Justthinkingaloud90.blogspot.com that the theme of International Youth Day 2019, “Transforming education”, highlights the efforts to make education more inclusive and accessible to all youths. Which is rooted in Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”
“International Youth Day 2019 will examine how Governments, young people and youth-led and youth-focused organizations, as well as other stakeholders, are transforming education so that it becomes a powerful tool to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” he added.
Kumo, further said inclusive and accessible education is crucial to achieving sustainable development and can play a role in the prevention of conflict.
” Indeed, education is a ‘development multiplier’ as it plays a pivotal role in accelerating progress across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, be it poverty eradication, good health, gender equality, decent work and growth, reduced inequalities, action on climate or peaceful societies ”.
He commended the commitment of the state governor for providing enabling environment to the youths of the state.
“We commend His Excellency, Alh. Inuwa Yahaya, for giving spaces and listening ears to the Youth in Gombe. Equally for the innovations in ensuring that basic education is accessible to Children and Youths”
He added that “Gombe State Youth Parliament as a State Youth Legislative body will continue to ensure that issues affecting Youths and contemporary challenges are forwarded to the appropriate unit to ensure good representation of Youths in the State”.
“We also appeal to Governor Inuwa Yahaya, to create Youth Advisory Team that will comprise representative of both Gombe State Youth Parliament, CSOs, and Youth related agencies so that our voice and resolution will be heard directly.
