Nwaorisara Kanu,
The State Coordinator NYSC Gombe,Mr David Markson has urged the 2019 Batch C Stream I Corps members to impact the society through Community Development Service.
Markson stated this on Saturday at the temporary camp ground, Amada during the lecture series on the ABC of Community Development Service.
He noted that the third of the four cardinal programmes of the Scheme is to enable corps members impact positively to community life.
” Community Development Service exposes corps members to cultures and traditions of their host Communities, harnessing enormous talents of Corps members, instill in Corps members the tradition of labour and productivity and compliments the effort of Government in National Development, among other things
“Prepare your minds to initiate and execute projects in your host Communities. It is not enough to serve your fatherland, you must leave lasting legacies to be remembered with” he said.
He maintained that Corps members could make positive impact in their host Communities individually or as a group; Community Development Service Groups like, Editorial and Publicity, Service Delivery, Medical and Health,Freedom of Information Act Vanguard, Culture and Tourism, Federal Road Safety, Legal Aids, and Environmental Community service Group among others meet weekly to see how they could make positive impact
Interaction between corps members and Community members, Proposal to carry out the project, getting approval from the State Coordinator, mobilising resources in consultation with Community members , execution of the project, submission of monthly report giving update of the project, submission of completion report to the secretariat through the Local Government Inspector,Commissioning of the project ,giving of feedback to people who donated or supported the corps member to carry out the project. These and many more are steps to be taken to carry out projects in the Communities.
He added that the criteria for execution of projects; “
projects should be accessible to members of the Communities, written proposal written to the state Coordinator, relevance of the project, sustainability of the project even after the Corps member has passed out of service, source of funding etcetera”.
