According to the Chairman, Alhassan Yahya, the state has 17% contraceptive prevalence rate noting that it is gratifying that in the Covid-19 pandemic more women have opted to Injectable as a family planning method.

He said the group has been advocating subscription and increasing uptake of child spacing in the state adding that more Gombe women have accepted Sayana press as a preferred method.

Yahya said, “Nigeria is currently battling covid-19, like wise Gombe state but we are glad to tell you that despite covid-19 women are subscribing more to child spacing in the state. If you look at the data between March and April injectable is one of the area that women have subscribed more to. We have strong uptake in that area compared to other areas. This time around to our surprise the injectable has scaled to 211,295 for both new and follow up subscribers on available records from National Health Management Information System (NHMIS) Family Planning Dash Board.”

While commending Gombe state government for adopting Sayana press self injectable system as a mode of child spacing adding that care givers traditional and religious leaders should be appreciated for their enormous roles in enlightening Gombe women.

He added, “It is our hope and prayer that before 2020 the state would have attained 20% Contraceptive Prevalence Rate, right now we are on 17% we hope to get that level of acceptance. We are not against women giving birth to as many as possible but we feel it is necessary for a woman to take a break of at least two years to regain her immune system.”
