Federal Road Safety Corps, Gombe State Sector Commander, Ishaku Gabmi Ibrahim on Tuesday, said the sector will ensure that all parks comply with the use of Personal Protective Equipment and other preventive measures.
He said the command has commenced advocacy visit with transporters and transport owners adding that henceforth it will not condone overloading of passengers to allow for physical distance.
Ibrahim stated this in an interview with newsmen in Gombe.
He added that the sector’s enforcement is alongside public enlightenment and advocacy visit.
According to him, “In all the points where commuters are transported there should be provisions for washing of hands and sanitizers for those that will be joining public transport. Motor parks should make provision for waiting places and they should be well sanitized as well as ensure the use of face masks.
“Vehicles will carry passengers half of the capacity they are supposed to carry, a 13 seater bus carrying 13 people in the pre covid-19 period will now carry 9 passengers, it was initially 3-3-3-3-1 but now should be 2-2-2-2-1, to allow for adequate spacing and safety. For a 4 seater salon vehicle, which carried 4 persons should now Carry 2 persons 2-1.”
He noted that illegal motor parks have become an albatross in the enforcement of guidelines, adding that “we are working with the state government to ensure that motor parks that are not legally pronounced are eliminated. The state government has set up task force for illegal motor parks to be prosecuted and FRSC is a member.”
While appreciating the effort of Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, in securing residents of the state, the sector commander said “we will ensure that road crashes are reduced, therefore all preventive efforts will be employed to see that the state records less crashes.”
