Secretary to Gombe State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi on Wednesday reiterated the passion of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, towards uplifting the health of residents of the state through enhancement of man power.
Njodi stated this while inaugurating Women for Health (W4H) foundation year programme working committee at his conference hall in Government House Gombe.
He added that the governor has identified Health as central to economic prosperity.
He said, “The inention of the governor is to do more, that is why he has the vision of establishing at least one Primary Health Care across the 114 wards in the state.
On her part, the Provost College of Nursing and Midwifery Gombe Dr. Pauline Doka said the women for Health foundation year program will address the shortage of front line health workers in rural areas.
She added, “Women will be selected from various communities of the local government and given adequate preparatory class for a period of six months before being enrolled into basic nursing/midwifery programmer: while those without requirement will be prepared to rewrite and make up their deficiencies in O levels. The program also has an empowerment scheme which focuses on the development of mechanisms to maintain and increase the empowerment of these young women by strengthening their life skills and opportunities for generating income.”
Also speaking, the chairman of the committee Alh. Yahaya Hammari, appreciated the governor for finding him and his team worthy to head the advocacy committee on Women for Health initiative.
“It is a moment where the foundation for the process of emancipating rural girls from the bondage of ignorance and poverty is being laid. The process will not only make them educated, but as well expose them to opportunity of becoming health workers serving their immediate communities,” he stated.
Hammari further charged government on prompt release of funds.
