Gombe state Commissioner for Education Dr. Habu Dahiru on Tuesday said the compliance level of students on Covid-19 safety protocol across the state is encouraging.
Dahiru who revealed that he toured six schools both private and public schools added that the attendance is improved.
He disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent, while fielding answers to the lack of physical distancing as observed on the first day of resumption.
He said, “I have been going round schools monitoring the preparedness of students and teachers to WAEC, compliance of Covid-19. I visited about six schools this includes Government Science Secondary school, Government Girls Secondary school Doma, Government Day comprehensive Day secondary school Gandu, Matrix. I visited both government and private secondary schools.
“Everywhere I went lessons have commenced, the teachers and students are aware about the covid-19 protocols.
“Generally attendance of students is almost 100% and in most places above 90%. Their knowledge on Covid-19 which relates to prevention is very high, almost every child had face mask on, aside two people. The positioning of the hand washing facility, Hand sanitizer and electronic temperature device in all the schools visited.
“Schools that are boarding will conduct both afternoon and evening Prep in order to catch up but the none boarding schools will conduct only afternoon Prep since by evening they (students) would have returned to their homes. “
Dahiru added that teachers are in high spirit towards the preparation of WAEC more their students.
“I was expecting the students to be more spirited towards the examination more but the enthusiasm is more on the side of teachers who are keen to see their students back. I have asked teachers to use WAEC examiners report to help students in their revision to assist they with recommendation on how best to answer questions,” he said.
