Gombe state governor, Inuwa Yahaya on Saturday re-opened the road linking Gombe correctional centre with other roads in Shamaki area of Tudun wada and Tashan Dukku roads, adding that in war turn states movement around such Reformation facility was not inhibited.
Yahaya who personally launch the opening of the route, was on inspection tour to 1KM Idi- Kasuwan Doya- Babban Layi- Main Market road as well as the 1.6KM Layin Kerosene- Jubilee junction road with spur in Herwagana area, all within Gombe metropolis.
He directed that the road which was closed for about 7 years ago at the height of insurgency be re-opened to allow people of the area and other motorists plying the road to have access to other link roads.
He said, “The main reason of coming here is to confirm the arrangement we made with the controller of Correctional centre. I complained to him that the people of this area have been denied the use of this road despite that Gombe has been in peace for relatively quite some time even roads earlier closed in Maiduguri where the insurgency hit the most have been re-opened for long, I therefore see no reason why this road will remain closed.
“All those places didn’t close any road linking the street of the people because of the correctional centre or because of threat. So we that are in peace have no reason to deny our people the use of this road, that was why I asked them what they required for them to open the road, they gave me the estimate and I approved it and they have done it.
I just came to confirm that people can use the road as from this moment.”
Yahaya added that the road was re-opened after due consultation with Gombe Correctional Service authorities and other security agencies and therefore urged residents of the area to desist from violating the traffic rules as well as continue to maintain peace.
