Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday, canvassed for synergy between boundary managers in Nigeria, as the nation grapples with both interstate and intrastate boundary matters
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Manassah Jatau, spoke during the interactive session of the National Boundary Commission and the Boundary Committee of states in the North-east zone held and the new Banquet hall, Government House, Gombe
The governor charged all boundary managers to be determined, attentive and favourably towards learning and contributing to the interactive session.
“You are assembled here in pursuit of relevant knowledge that will position you to execute your mandate timely and appropriately as managers of our boundaries.
“You must also not fail to recognise the fact that your duties are sacred trusts which must be faithfully discharge to the best of your abilities in order to engender peace and development along all boundary corridors in the subregion,” Yahaya counselled participants.
In his welcome address, Director General, National Boundary Commission (NBC), Surv. Adamu Adaji noted that interstate boundaries of the states in the North-east, evolved over time from different creations of states.
He charged participants to be very frank and feel free to interact and trade ideas “and experiences so that you will have new insight and come up with concrete steps towards fast tracking the definition of the interstate boundaries in the zone,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the interactive session will translate into a marked improvement, “in our understanding of what boundaries are and what is expected of us as individual stakeholders or collectively as members of Boundary Committee.”
