Gombe state governor, Inuwa Yahaya has vowed never to turn blind eye to the educational needs of children especially in public schools across the eleven LGA’s of the state.
Yahaya stated this on Thursday, at the Inauguration ceremony of BESDA -Better Education Service Delivery for All State Safeguard Team and BESDA Safeguard and Local Government Education Regulating Teams at the Federal College of Education Gombe.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Governor said already 1,466 and 928 head teachers in the selected Schools for the two literacy programs have been trained and relevant materials distributed to the pupils and teachers.
He stated that School Support Officers have been selected, trained and retrained to effectively support and supervised teaching and learning of literacy in Primary one of selected Schools.
He said, “Government is not unmindful of the growing agitations for remuneration and promotions which started well before now.
“I want to assure you that in the near future we will put smile in the faces of our golden teachers accross the State Afterall,no nation grows beyond the status of it’s teacher. And for our golden teachers, to whom much is given much is expected.
” Our administration look up to you to change the tide in the quality of Education in Gombe State.”
He charged members of the newly inaugurated Committee to work hard towards ensuring that children are protected in schools adding that as a responsible Government,we will not neglect our responsibility of protecting our children in School.
The Gombe State Commissioner of Education Dr. Habu Dahiru as well as the Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Gombe Hon. Babaji Babadidi both agreed that the State and Local Government Education Authority BESDA Safeguard teams are necessary for protecting students within the academic and non academic environment.
They praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his passion towards repositioning the education sector through the expansion and renovation of both human and material resources within the Education sector.
The National BESDA coordinator in charge of Gombe State Dr. Sani Abdullahi said Gombe State comes top in the implementation of the BESDA program in the country expressing the hope of a continuity of the project if the world bank assisted programme comes to a close.
