National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday, called on the Gombe state government to support ongoing orientation exercise, at Amada, Akko LGA with regular water supply to ensure proper sanitation.

According to NYSC National Governing Board Chairman, Fatima Abubakar, this is pivotal to promoting covid-19 safety measure.
Abubakar stated this during a courtesy call to Gombe state governor, Inuwa Yahaya, at the council chamber, government house.
Abubakar enumerated the major challenges to include; inadequate accommodation, poor facilities and lack of water.
She said, “ Currently the camp is housing 817 corps members and every day they have to buy tanker of water and in this period of COVID-19, we need water to maintain sanitation in the camp.
“In this COVID-19, if we have to buy water to maintain good sanitation according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines, it is an uphill task; this is a major problem.”
Abubakar added that the facilities in the camp needed an upgrade to accommodate more corps members, stressing that the facility can not take more corps members as a result of social distancing protocol.
On his part, Gombe state governor, Inuwa Yahaya recalled that the state bequeathed a permanent orientation camp to the military for the de-radicalisation of repentant insurgents.
Yahaya said, “the camp cost the state government N600 to build, the state government would need nearly N1.2billion to build a new camp which the state does not have.
“The issue of the orientation camp had been presented before President Muhammadu Buhari, the matter is being handled towards putting up another orientation camp.”
He added that the state government will do its best to make sure that corps members in the stae received the best support.
