Gombe state governor, Inuwa Yahaya has described as Barbaric, the gruesome murder of some civilians in zabarmari, a farming community famous for rice cultivation in Jere local government area of the state.
Yahaya condemned the terror act on Monday, describing it as barbaric, inhuman and regrettable.
He lamented that this brutal attack was coming at a time Governors of the North East under the leadership of Prof. Babagana Zulum are stepping up regional collaboration and intensifying campaign for improved and sustainable peace and security in the sub-region to safeguard the lives of the people and facilitate smooth return of internally displaced persons back to their ancestral homes.
He noted that although gains had been recorded in the fight against terrorism in the North East with thousands of IDPs already being resettled, more measures need to be taken, including deployment of more technology, equipment and troops as well as intelligence gathering to guarantee safety and security.
Yahaya stated, “This dastardly attack on innocent farmers further proves that these terrorists are totally heartless, inhuman, and have no regard for life.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Gombe state, we convey our sincere condolences to the people and government of Borno state as well as the families of the slain farmers. We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and quick recovery for the injured ones.
“It is imperative that our security agencies step up their operations and consign these attacks by Boko Haram to the past. Borno state and indeed the entire North-East is in difficult situation at the moment and in dire need of all the help and support to overcome the challenges at hand.”
