Gombe IGR increases from N6.8b to N8.5b in 2020

Executive Chairman, Gombe State Internal Revenue Service, Mohammed Inuwa Tata, on Friday, said the state’s internally general revenue has improved from N6.8billion in 2019 to N8.5billion in 2020.
Tata who doubles as chairman of Fiscal Responsibility Commission of the state, said a new revenue law in the state, will take effect from May this year.
Tata disclosed this, while briefing newsmen on the activities of his agency in Gombe, at the Fiscal Responsibility office.
He noted that the state will embark on aggressive revenue generation, when the law takes effect, adding that governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration is geared towards providing dividends of good governance to residents.
The IRS boss further revealed that a new tax law , will soon come on stream in the state.
He however noted that due to over bloated workforce in the state, is practically impossible for the payment of minimum wage to local councils.
According to Tata, “Gombe local government alone has about 999 workers majority who are liabilities doing nothing. The service will continue to work to ensure that all expenditures are properly accounted for and transparently reported by the commission and who ever that is found wanted will be reported to his excellency for prosecution, this is what we believe in this is the mandate of the commission.”
Tata added that the activities of MDAs were also reviewed by his agency to see whether resources allocated to them are judiciously used and if not punitive measure will be meted out to such agency.
“The biometric is currently going on, with a view to determining genuine workers from ghost workers,” he said.
