Gombe establishes citizenship centre, says it will curb vices -Commissioner

Gombe State Executive Council at it 12th meeting presided by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, approved the establishment of leadership and citizenship centre to eradicate vices.
Following the growing cases of drug abuse, rape, theft amongst youths in the state, Government says it will help curb youth excesses.
Briefing journalists on Wednesday, shortly after the end of the meeting, Commissioner for Information, Julius Ishaya said the centre is geared towards instilling leadership in the minds of youths.
He added that the state government is concerned about the statistics of criminality, which is rife in the youth age bracket.
“This Government felt it is important for us to have a leadership and citizenship centre where young people will be mentored for sometime on Leadership skills and qualities for them to understand they are leaders of today and tomorrow,” Ishaya said.
He added that the centre will help youths understand their duties and responsibilities.
He said, “The centre will help youths understand their duties and responsibilities as citizens of the state. They are supposed to understand that they are the building block of the society and the future. It will help in taking youths away from the streets and stop the negative trends where they indulge in all kinds of vices.”
