Gov Yahaya commits to transformation of education in Gombe, directs 80 minutes per week library engagement across schools

Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has said his administration will not stop at anything to revitalise education across the LGA’s.
Yahaya revealed that the state of education in the state was devastating prior to the coming of his administration.
He made this disclosure on Monday, during the commissioning of primary school library at Jekadafari Primary School, distribution of 45 motorcycles, instructional materials and sports equipment to schools.
Governor Yahaya who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, hailed the unwavering support of those in charge of education which has in no small measure amplified the efforts of his administration.
He noted that construction and equipping of school library will address the identified problems, adding that it is the right step in the right direction.
Yahaya said, “As you all are aware, we inherited some devastating challenges in the education sector on assumption of office, where Gombe State sadly ranked 34th out of 36th states in the federation in external examinations conducted by WAEC and NECO. This reason just prompted me to immediately declare state of emergency on education, particularly at the basic level, in order to salvage the sector from total collapse.

“The establishment of primary school library is yet another bold step in the right direction towards addressing its problem. The importance of a library as a foundation for pupils’, students’ self motivation can not be over emphasized as it will greatly enhance learning in our schools.”

While reiterating his effort in transforming learning in the state, the governor added that State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), through ministry of education will build 110 libraries amounting to N333,000,000, in the first phase.
“Education secretaries and all school principals/ head of teachers as a matter of necessity, are hereby directed to include library period of 80 minutes per week on their school time table to enable students, pupils read on their own under guidance of a trained librarian,” the governor added.

Also, SUBEB chairman, Babaji Babadidi, lauded the governor’s effort in giving education desired facelift.
Babadidi stressed that the primary school library and distribution of materials will help to inject new techniques that will improve the quality of education across.
He said, “I would like to seize this opportunity to first and foremost applaud the untiring zeal of His Excellency, the governor for his tremendous developmental programmes and upliftment of Gombe state to the next level.
“Particularly his passion, commitment and interest in repositioning as evidence by the on going construction, renovations of classrooms all over the 11 LGAs that were hitherto abandoned over the years by previous administration.”
