Gombe State Commissioner for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Muhammad Gettado, has lamented the abysmal handling of Federal Government 200 billion naira agricultural intervention fund, adding that most beneficiaries are not farmers.
Gettado disclosed this on Monday, during the ministry’s training of farmers across the state on weather forecasting, planting season and modern cropping.
According to him, “The Ministry is currently in possession of a comprehensive list of genuine farmers in the State as a precursor to reaching them each time Government intervention or programme arises.”
He also disclosed that the seminar would be extended to senatorial districts in the State in order to have a comprehensive coverage of all farmers and stakeholders in the Agricultural industry for maximum benefits and results.
He decried the poor handling and disbursement of the 200 billion naira Federal Government Agricultural intervention fund, He said, “Most of those who benefited from the gesture are at best not genuine farmers.
“Some farmers who are in the habit of selling out Agricultural intervention given to them by the Government, such act is inimical to the growth and development of the Agricultural sector in the State and the country at large.”
While commending Governor Muhammadu Yahaya for his performance in the Agricultural sector, Gettado added, “This stems from the timely distribution of fertilizer and other farm inputs, Gombe state is willingly to partner with them in every step of the way.”
