Northeast Senate committee on the public hearing on review of the 1999 on Wednesday, commenced sitting in Gombe.
The committee comprising of Adamawa, Taraba and Gombe was led by former governor Danjuma Goje representing Gombe central.
Addressing Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, during the committee’s courtesy visit at the Government House, Executive Chamber, Goje said his team was in the state to compile confirmations from those who had earlier submitted memoranda and to give opportunities to those who were yet to contribute their misgivings.

Goje noted that public hearings usually presents unique opportunity for constituents to make deserved changes.
“we want additional information and clarification from those who have submitted memoranda on the subject and to give opportunities to those who have not made any attempt to add their voices,” Goje said.
He added that the senate preliminary session on the 1999 constitution review commenced since July.
In his response, Governor Yahaya urged the senators and Nigerians to make due input into the exercise, adding that there can’t be a better time than now to make requisite changes.
Yahaya said, “constitution is not cast of iron; not cast of stick or cast of stone.
“We cast it by ourselves; there must be changes to embrace development. There must be reasons for the need for changes.
“Don’t be scared to adjust the aged laws for the benefit of our people.”
