Gombe State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has seized no fewer than 408.655 kgs of various illicit drugs in the state.
Briefing journalists on Friday, at their headquarters, State Commander, Ekaete Egwunwoke, said between June 2020 to 2021 the command has made reasonable progress, adding that the command has secured 31 convictions.
Egwunwoke revealed that over 150 suspects were also arrested with 143 being males and 7 others as females.
She said, “A total of 408.655 kgs of various illicit drugs have been seized. This seizure has helped to take drugs off the streets.
“We have arrested 150 suspects; comprising of 143 male suspects and 7 female suspects).
“70 clients were counselled and rehabilitated. They comprised of 66 males and 4 female clients.
“31 convictions secured at Federal High Court, while 19 cases are pending with 30 ongoing cases under investigation.”
While expressing optimism in the combat of illicit drugs in the State, Egwunwoke said this year’s theme on International Day against drug abuse, ‘Share facts about drug, save lives‘ gives credence to what the support of all stakeholders could do in quelling massive distribution of illicit drugs.
“The command therefore appeals to the general public to expose every drug dealer in their environment by giving useful information to NDLEA Gombe State Command for their arrest. Parents and guardians are equally advised to monitor their children and wards on the friends they keep.
“The command commends His Excellency the governor of Gombe State Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and the good people of Gombe on their support in fighting drug war and plead that more support and cooperation will be appreciated,” Egwunwoke added.
