Govt science old boys: Gombe renews commitment to education sector

Gombe State Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, has re-emphasized the state government’s commitment to accord priority to the education sector.
He expressed this commitment while addressing the Old Students Association Of Government Science Secondary School, Gombe during its 6th annual general meeting and election of new executives.
The Deputy Governor who represented the governor at the occasion, said that the present administration has constructed and renovated over five hundred classrooms across the state apart from provision of learning and teaching materials, equipping a number of laboratories, chairs and desks among others.

He expressed optimism that the performance of students in WAEC has improved from four point four in 2019 to twenty six percent in 2020, while GSSS Gombe has recorded 90% success in NECO in 2020.
According to him, government of Inuwa Yahaya has renovated five secondary schools which were met in deplorable conditions.
The schools are GSSS Gombe, Dukku, Dadin-Kowa, Kaltungo and Government college Doma.
He stressed that the School of Nursing and Midwifery would soon be relocated to a more convenient environment and give more space to the GSS, Gombe.

On his part, President of the Association, Malam Aliyu Kamara, who appreciated the government intervention and a number of members of the Association towards improving the school’s condition.
He appealed to the government to return structures of the school being occupied by some government agencies since after the creation of the state.
Also speaking, Principal of the school, Malam Abubakar Sadiq Suleiman who enumerated the some performance of the school starting from it’s establishment in 1967 with just 75 students now has over 1400 students and more than 55 teaching staff.
He appreciated the immense renovation and construction of blocks of classrooms, hostel, library, borehole and lots more.
He however appealed for the provision of school bus that will accommodate large number of students for excursion and other educative trips.
During the program governor Inuwa Yahaya was given an award as well as the minister of communications and Digital Economy Dr. Isa Ali Pantami.
